Gain practices and childbirth education skills to navigate and “be with” the pain, fear, and joy that can be present in pregnancy, labor, and life.

Jennifer Averill Moffitt invites expectant parents and health care professionals to attend the Mindfulness Based Childbirth & Parenting intensive.

This weekend intensive is designed for expectant parents who are curious how practicing mindfulness can impact their capacity during labor, birth, parenting, and beyond. It is also open to health-care professionals who want to learn more about Mindfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting (MBCP).

Co-taught by mindfulness practitioners, including a nurse midwife who has attended more than 1,000 births, you learn how to:

  • Practice mindfulness for working with pain and fear during labor
  • Understand the mind/body connection in childbirth
  • Be fully present to give comfort and support as a birth partner/support person
  • Bring mindfulness to the contractions of labor, and the "contractions" of life, and the space in between contractions

First-time parents or those with previous birth experience will return home with materials and practices to continue at home after the course, which is rooted in evidence-based research.

More Information

Workshop begins Friday at 7:00 p.m.

This course is rooted in evidence-based research. Published research on the benefits of taking a Mindfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting (MBCP) Intensive course during pregnancy shows lower rates of depression during pregnancy, immediately following childbirth, and postpartum. Other benefits of MBCP include increased childbirth self-efficacy, increased parent-child attachment, and decreased anxiety during pregnancy and postpartum.

Whether you are an experienced mindfulness practitioner, or have never meditated, this course is for you. It is an offering to anyone who wants to practice living fully into the ever-changing moments of your life, as it continues to unfold.

Come alone or with a support person.
