Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time, just as we all feel joy, anger, sorrow, love, and the whole range of human emotion. It is impossible to go through life without feeling anxious at some point—at times it can be fleeting, other times debilitating.
Yoga-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Y-CBT) is a research-based psychological paradigm that combines the scientifically documented effects of yoga with traditional psychology for the management of stress and anxiety. This skill-based program is an integrative approach that addresses anxiety by quieting the mind, and shifting the body’s natural responses to stress.
In this training, learn about Y-CBT from its cocreators through group practice, practice of yoga and meditation, traditional psychological strategies, lecture, and discussion. The training guides you to:
- Learn a broad overview of Y-CBT and the philosophy behind it
- Understand how Y-CBT treats anxiety and stress
- Learn practical skills to quiet the physical experience of anxiety and manage anxious thought through cognitive restructuring
- Successfully offer Y-CBT in your practice for both individual or group modalities
The Y-CBT mind-body approach is effective for both individual and group practice and is organized into six modules. Trainees receive a detailed manual and a Powerpoint presentation for their use in providing the model. Originally developed for mental health professionals, the program is also helpful to yoga teachers and lay people hoping to learn more about managing their stress and anxiety.
