Back pain does not have to rule your world, says therapeutic yoga specialist Nydia Tijerina Darby, who developed the Therapeutic Astanga Method© for those who want to improve their body, mind, spirit, health, and long-term functional mobility.
Nydia developed these gentle, breath-centered, therapeutic yoga practices to be accessible and modifiable to meet the needs of many because she recognizes that everyone comes to the practice with their own unique experiences, backgrounds, and abilities.
These evidence-based practices have been developed over four decades and used in the therapeutic yoga research interventions she created for cancer research, since 2009. They represent the melding of her experience in physical therapy, fitness, and mindful yoga lifestyle practices that she embodies and has shared over the last 40 years.
Through lecture, group discussion, and question-and-answer sessions, workshop participants learn the practical application of breath-centered therapeutic yoga practices with an emphasis on a gentle and mindful approach to spine care and core stability.
Physicians, therapists, yoga and fitness professionals, and others can learn to embody a method that supports their whole being and offers insight into practices that may benefit their patients and clients. You don’t have to be a professional—if you have a spine and want to learn how to improve your long-term well-being and mobility, this is the program for you.
No previous yoga experience or equipment is needed for this weekend immersion suitable for all levels. Variations will be offered to meet the needs of participants who are encouraged to honor their body, take rest as they require, and only do the practices they are comfortable with. The only thing you have to do, Nydia says, is breathe.
