Pádraig Ó Tuama's interests lie in language, strangeness, conflict, and religion. He looks to biblical narratives as world stories—The Flood is as interesting as The Odyssey. The political machinery operating in first century Jerusalem is as sophisticated as today's. And he brings groups to appreciate the artistry and insight in these ancient texts.
Examine six stories from the Bible with Pádraig as your guide, in the light of language, art, insight, psychology, archetype, and myth. There will be prompts for your own writing, discussion, meditations on art and poetry throughout the centuries, and consideration of the writers whose lonely and anonymous vocation it was to record these strange stories.
The purpose of these gatherings is simply to explore the skill of the original writers, and the complex story worlds they make present through their work. There is no expectation that anybody has previous knowledge or desire for religious affiliation for participation in this course.
