Akira Armstrong and a group of dancers on the street

This all-inclusive workshop focuses on self-awareness through movement, with Akira Armstrong, who performed alongside Beyoncé, Lizzo, and Janet Jackson.

Akira Armstrong appears on GMA to show how she has inspired plus-sized dancers all over the world.

Explore different forms of dance, improvisation, and choreography, guided by trailblazing dancer Akira Armstrong in a welcoming, all-inclusive space. Throughout the week, you experience:

  • Focused body awareness exercises
  • Gentle stretching, breathing, and alignment principles
  • Simple, evocative dance phrases that represent different emotions
  • Guided improvisation
  • Exploration of partner work, weight sharing, and trust through dance
  • Journaling sessions about feelings experienced during movement

Each activity is meant for you to reflect upon your relationship to your body, and get a deeper understanding of self, honor comfort levels, and reflect as a group.

Work in small groups to create a dance based upon an emotion, and perform it for the other workshop participants, who provide positive feedback and reflection.

The workshop is open to people of all sizes, capabilities, and identities. Akira fosters a non-judgmental space where everyone feels safe to express themselves.
