Explore different forms of dance, improvisation, and choreography, guided by trailblazing dancer Akira Armstrong in a welcoming, all-inclusive space. Throughout the week, you experience:
- Focused body awareness exercises
- Gentle stretching, breathing, and alignment principles
- Simple, evocative dance phrases that represent different emotions
- Guided improvisation
- Exploration of partner work, weight sharing, and trust through dance
- Journaling sessions about feelings experienced during movement
Each activity is meant for you to reflect upon your relationship to your body, and get a deeper understanding of self, honor comfort levels, and reflect as a group.
Work in small groups to create a dance based upon an emotion, and perform it for the other workshop participants, who provide positive feedback and reflection.
The workshop is open to people of all sizes, capabilities, and identities. Akira fosters a non-judgmental space where everyone feels safe to express themselves.
