After a walk with his dog, a Swiss man went through the painstaking task of pulling burrs out of his dog’s fur. That’s when he got the idea for velcro, a temporary attachment technique inspired by nature. This biology-to-design process is referred to as Biomimicry. In this video, program manager and engineer Dana Levy explains biomimicry as learning from nature and making an industrial equivalent.
