Peter A. Levine, PhD, is the originator and developer of Somatic Experiencing® and the director of the Somatic Experiencing® Trauma Institute, a nonprofit, educational, and research organization focusing on worldwide healing and prevention of trauma.
During his 35 years of studying stress and trauma, Levine has contributed to a variety of scientific and popular publications. He was a stress consultant for NASA during the development of the space shuttle program, and has taught at treatment centers, hospitals, and pain clinics throughout the world, as well as at the Hopi Guidance Center in Arizona. He served with the Institute for World Affairs Task Force for Psychologists for Social Responsibility and the American Psychological Association Presidential Initiative on Responding to Large-Scale Disasters and Ethno-Centric Warfare.
Peter A. Levine is author of In an Unspoken Voice, Healing Trauma, and Waking the Tiger. He is coauthor (with Maggie Kline) of Trauma Through a Child’s Eyes and Trauma-Proofing Your Kids. He is also the author of several CDs, including Sexual Healing and It Won’t Hurt Forever.
