Meena Srinivasan, MA, is a national board certified teacher and South Asian-American edupreneur with expertise in the fields of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and Mindfulness in Education. Prior to co-founding Transformative Educational Leadership (TEL), she spent five and a half years working in partnership with the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) to implement SEL system-wide in the Oakland Unified School District.
Meena has taught and led in a variety of school settings (public, private, urban, international) and holds a Clear Administrative Services Credential in the state of California. She was identified by CASEL as one of four Next Generation SEL Leaders engaged in innovative work at the intersection of SEL and Equity to offer a plenary talk at the 2019 SEL Exchange.
Meena is the creator of the SEL Every Day online courses, author of Teach, Breathe, Learn: Mindfulness In and Out of the Classroom, SEL Every Day: Integrating SEL with Instruction in Secondary Classrooms—which was chosen as one of 2019’s Favorite Books for Educators by the Greater Good Science Center—and Integrating SEL into Every Classroom Quick Reference Guide.
Meena is also a student of the late Ramchandra Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson) and Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, Thich Nhat Hanh. She was ordained into the Tiep Hien Lineage/Order of Interbeing in 2010. Sacred activism has been front and center in both Meena’s personal life and the way in which she leads TEL.
