Dayna Baumeister, PhD, is cofounder of the Biomimicry Institute and Biomimicry 3.8, an innovative company that draws on deep knowledge of biological adaptations to help designers, engineers, architects, and business leaders solve design and engineering challenges sustainably.

Dayna Baumeister received a bachelor of science degree in marine biology from New College, and a master’s degree in resource conservation and a doctorate in organismic biology and ecology from the University of Montana, where she specialized in dynamics of positive interactions among animal and plant life. With a background in biology, a devotion to applied natural history, and a passion for sharing the wonders of nature with others, she has worked in the field of biomimicry since 1998 as an educator, researcher, and design consultant.
