Andrew Faust is one of the premier permaculture teachers and designers in North America with more than two decades of experience in the field. His passionate and mind-expanding talks and curriculum have motivated teachers and students since his decade-long career as a high school teacher at Upattinas School, an open community free school in Glenmoore, Pennsylvania.
Andrew lived completely off the grid in the mountains of West Virginia for 10 years, building a passive solar straw-bale home. Using as much on-site material as possible, he developed spring-fed water systems and ponds, establishing his regenerative farm and selling produce he grew to restaurants and farmers markets. He moved to Brooklyn in 2007 and continued consulting, teaching, and selling organic produce to restaurants from his farm in Ellenville, New York. He has been applying his knowledge to the urban landscape and the Hudson River Valley, creating a unique curriculum for a permaculture design certification course.
Andrew released Earth Is Our Home in 2024, a bioregional permaculture design book. He cofounded the Permaculture Land Trust in 2022.
Andrew received a dual diploma in design and education from the Permaculture Institute of North America in 2016. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in comparative religions from Guilford College.
Andrew and Adriana Magaña, with their daughter Juniper, run the Center for Bioregional Living in Ellenville, a hands-on educational campus for students and clients.
