There is an insidious myth that women often buy into, psychotherapist and author Nancy Colier says. The myth, she says, is a belief that women should be able to have all of their needs met simply by taking care of other people's needs. By being kind. By being sweet. By being likable.
For many women, this early-life programming overrides questions we never ask ourselves, much less express or dare to live by: What does taking care of yourself really mean—for you? What do you want and need at this moment in your life; what genuinely takes care of you?
Conditioned to know what everyone else wants and needs, we don't know what we want and need. We sacrifice authenticity for likability and abandon ourselves to be pleasing, managing other people's experience and perceptions of us.
But there’s a longing inside us, Nancy says, that wants to live a more truthful and vital life—a life that's real and truly ours.
This 90-minute workshop is designed for women to address that longing. You are invited to:
- Become aware of your own self-abandonment, taking care of others at the expense of yourself
- Free yourself from the likability cage and step off the treadmill of trying to be who everyone else needs you to be
- Make the shift from doing self-care to being self-caring, rebuild your relationship with yourself to be on your own side
- Bring your own voice back into the conversation and into your life
- Build the tools (and courage) to speak and act from your truth, to value your relationship with yourself as much as with others
"What do I want?" will show up as a question that matters. You will show up as someone who matters. Join this workshop of adventure and build the real-life tools, behaviors, and choices to live this change forward and create a truthful, invigorating life.
