Neurobiologist Dr. Tobias Esch says later stages of life are a crucial part of the human reward and motivation system.
His research team has graphed three distinct parts of the motivation system for the neurobiology of happiness in a "U" shape, in which children are at one side, middle agers at the bottom of the U-curve, and the elderly at the opposite.
