RHINEBECK, NY – A new United Nations report is providing a stark assessment of gender equity in the world: “The world is failing women and girls,” according to The Gender Snapshot 2023. Citing alarming gaps in healthcare, education, employment, and political and legal representation, the report indicates that achieving gender equality by 2030, one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, is “way off track.” In the face of multiple crises and unprecedented setbacks for women globally, the Omega Women’s Leadership Center (OWLC) is convening its 18th Women & Power conference, to nurture and catalyze women to #DoPowerDifferently.
“This year’s gathering comes at a time when there is urgent need for women to build personal and collective resilience for the road ahead. There is power in coming together to nurture connection in our communities, and working across issues and borders with women around the world,” said Carla Goldstein, president and CEO at Omega, and cofounder of the OWLC. “Despite the grim picture in the news, we see amazing acts of courage, resistance, and progress being made. We’ve chosen a diverse group of global leaders to share tangible examples of what’s possible, when we work together and lead from the heart,” said Goldstein.
Women & Power: Heads Together, Hearts Forward (Oct. 6– 8) will provide a gathering space for people of all genders to learn, be challenged, talk about collective experiences, and rest and recover.
2023 Women & Power highlights include:
- Keynotes by Omega cofounder and author Elizabeth Lesser; cofounder and president of the School of Leadership in Afghanistan, Shabana Basij-Rasikh; Kiah Williams, cofounder of SIRUM, a social enterprise dedicated to expanding healthcare access for patients in need; and gender justice advocate S.
