In August 2021, Omega was recognized and accredited by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Obtaining UN accreditation—and with it access to the climate conferences—took more than a decade of focused effort led by Omega Center for Sustainable Living Founder Robert "Skip" Backus and the OCSL staff.

Since then, Omega has been able to provide access to the climate conferences for climate justice leaders from the US, small island nations, and several African countries.
