Mark Nepo is a poet and spiritual teacher who has taught poetry, creative expression, and spirituality for more than 50 years. He has moved and inspired readers and seekers all over the world with his New York Times best-seller The Book of Awakening, with over a million copies sold. Mark has been called “one of the finest spiritual guides of our time,” “a consummate storyteller,” and “an eloquent spiritual teacher.” His books have been translated into more than 20 languages.
Mark has published 27 books and recorded 19 audio projects. His book, The Half-Life of Angels: Three Books of Poems, won a 2023 Nautilus Gold Award for poetry. It contains poems written in his 50s and 60s, and is the first in a series of volumes to be published in limited editions. Other recent work includes You Don't Have to Do It Alone, Falling Down and Getting Up, Surviving Storms, The Book of Soul, Drinking from the River of Light, and More Together Than Alone. Mark was a regular columnist for Spirituality & Health Magazine from 2017 to 2023.
Mark has received Life-Achievement Awards by AgeNation and OMTimes. He was named by Watkins: Mind Body Spirit as one of the 100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People, and was also chosen as one of OWN’s SuperSoul 100, a group of inspired leaders using their gifts and voices to elevate humanity. He has appeared several times with Oprah on Super Soul Sunday, and has also been interviewed by Robin Roberts on Good Morning America.
In his 30s, Mark was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma, a struggle which helped to form his philosophy of experiencing life fully while staying in relationship to an unknowable future. He devotes his writing and teaching to the journey of inner transformation and the life of relationship.
