In vinyasa yoga, commonly known as “flow yoga,” asanas are taken out of their isolation and linked together by the breath. Vinyasa krama takes vinyasa yoga to the next level, stringing relationships and moments in time together with attention and detail, so that our practice and whole circle of existence becomes harmonious and fluid. Guided by Jivamukti Yoga teacher Yogeswari, we enter into a deeper understanding and refinement of the proper execution of asana within the context of vinyasa krama, and explore the subtleties of its practical application in our daily life. With variations for beginners as well as advanced students, we move through simple and more complex sequences, at first breaking down the asanas that constitute the sequences, and then conducting a precise analysis and pacing of the transitions in between. Preparatory exercises sensitize our body to allow energy to flow continuously and harmoniously, and also teach us how to move the body through space gracefully. Yoga practitioners and yoga teachers alike receive guidance on how to put together sensible, well-balanced vinyasa krama practices they can use at home and in their classes. Yogeswari (Estelle Eichenberger) is also part of Jivamukti Yoga® Teacher Training; April 25-May 21, 2010.
