Working Rustic

Registration for this workshop has ended. Go to the Search Workshops page to look for upcoming workshops.

In this workshop, rustic artist and author Daniel Mack introduces us to the basic construction techniques, materials, and tools of rustic work, and guides us as we learn by working on our own projects with driftwood and dry saplings. During the workshop, we can expect to finish at least two projects. Chairs and benches are popular, but some people prefer more sculptural approaches to the materials.

Excellent for people who have never used a drill or a hammer, this workshop will also surprise and challenge experienced builders and craftspeople as they encounter the subtleties of the rustic ways of making things.

$50 materials fee; include when you register. Recommended reading: Any of Mack’s books and/or books on the work of Andy Goldsworthy, Chris Drury, or Patrick Dougherty. Plan ahead on how to transport your projects home.

Artist Daniel Mack has been working with rustic materials for more than 30 years to make furniture, architectural work, garden structures, and small, simple objects. He has written five books on working rustic and has been teaching this popular workshop for many years. danielmack.com
