An Exploration Into the Nature of Creativity Through Life Drawing

Registration for this workshop has ended. Go to the Search Workshops page to look for upcoming workshops.

“Many of us draw with a fixed idea of what we want,” says Meriel Hoare. “Our drawing may be accurate, but we miss what is really there—the rhythms, the tones, the harmonies, the very life of a thing.”

In this workshop, for artists at any level of experience, Hoare shows us how to see past what the mind thinks it knows. Using hands, fingers, and natural instruments like reeds, chalk, and water, we touch on paper that which touches us in the human form.

Exploring the silence of a model’s pose, with love, wonder, and inquiry, helps us to participate in its life, so that there is freedom to explore what is. In this way, Hoare says, drawing becomes a metaphor for life, allowing us to relax back into our creative essence and come home to our self.

Please bring two 8-ounce glass jelly jars. All other materials are provided.

Meriel Hoare has studied at the Slade School of Art in London, with Oscar Kokoshka in his School of Seeing in Salzburg, and with Cecil Collins. www.drawnhome.co.uk
