Track I: Leadership Readiness for Turbulent Times

Today, organizations find themselves at the edge of the unknown. Leaders need to dig deep inside themselves to manage organizational disruption and inspire and engage their teams, all while delivering results and raising the bar on innovation, accountability, and efficiency.

This workshop provides a practice environment for organizational, project, and team leaders to increase their leadership skills. Specific exercises utilizing scenarios from participants’ workplaces teach us how to develop our aptitude for assertiveness and constructive confrontation, conflict mediation skills, influence skills, and empathy skills for those in pain and transition.

Ultimately, we learn how to better manage an environment that may be troubled by fear and rapid change.

Erica Ariel Fox, JD, teaches negotiation at Harvard Law School and is founder of the Global Negotiation Insight Institute. Internationally recognized as a pioneer in the integration of wisdom traditions and spiritual practice into the negotiation and conflict resolution field, she is also a partner of Mobius Executive Leadership.

Track II: Mindfulness for the Lawyer’s Brain

The practice of law is a wonderful opportunity, but the challenge of working in a system that is explicitly adversarial can take its toll.

Grounded in cutting-edge neuroscientific findings on the brain’s capacity to change in response to directing awareness, Jurisight uses legal terms and images to communicate fundamental mindfulness principles. We learn to disrupt old patterns of thought and behavior to respond optimally to the pressing needs of the moment. With continued practice, we begin to experience challenges as opportunities to find greater joy, success, and satisfaction in the practice of law and life.

This workshop is open to lawyers and other legal professionals, as well as those who interact with attorneys.

Scott Rogers, MS, JD, founder and director of the Institute for Mindfulness Studies, has more than 17 years experience in mindfulness and other contemplative practices. His diverse legal career includes state and federal appellate clerkships, commercial litigation practice, and service as corporate general counsel. He is author of Mindful Parenting.

Track III: Making Personal Mastery for High Performance

Modern society offers an endless array of goals and we believe if we just stay on track, we will be rewarded. But we have come to a turning point. We are being called to embrace the timeless and immortal forces of life itself.

In this workshop, we use active imagination, the expressive arts, and our dreams to explore the immortal psyche and awaken our ability to see underlying patterns and envision new possibilities. Through our experience of different states of consciousness, we access profound inner resources and clarify our deepest longings. As we journey from the attachments of our ego to embrace the immortal, we remember that living is not a goal to be attained, but an unfolding mystery to be experienced.

Carole Kammen, MA, is a principal and cofounder of Pathways Institute and a senior consultant at Mobius Executive Leadership. Since 1980, she has worked with nearly 30,000 people to help them unlock their passion and potential. Kammen is coauthor of Call to Connection: Bringing Sacred Tribal Values into Modern Life.

This workshop begins Sunday at 7:00 p.m. and ends Friday at 1:00 p.m. The Global Negotiation Insight Institute also offers a Summer Learning Forum, June 21-26, 2009.
