Poetry Alive! members Ken and Nadine Delano teach us the reading-writing-performance connection inherent in all poetry.

As teachers, writers, readers, and lovers of poetry, we spend the week revitalizing the bardic tradition. We learn performance points and teach our “butterflies” to fly in formation. We feel and hear the words of the poem as they speak to us.

As we discover how to turn a poem into a play, we learn new techniques to edit and polish our own writings. We write from the inside out, allowing us to do the same in our reading; we no longer linger on the outside wondering what’s going on in a poem.

Teachers learn hands-on teaching methods, new delivery techniques based on inquiry, and new lesson designs to excite their students’ enthusiasm when asked to both read and write poetry. We all discover how to organize and energize writing groups, and turn poetry readings into poetry performances.

Bring a 3-ring binder. Participants receive a Poetry Alive! certificate upon completion of the course.

Ken Delano came to Poetry Alive! as a slam poet with a degree in American literature.
