All writers are warriors, whether we know it or not. Because writing is a powerful way to connect with the sacred within you, writing will eventually lead you to places inside that are uncomfortable. The “writing warrior” stands rooted through discomfort long enough to hear the wisdom of his or her stories. Through learning to observe our thoughts, stepping outside ourselves to a place of witness consciousness, and moving into our bodies, we learn how to connect with the root of our own wisdom. This experiential writing workshop with Laraine Herring, author of The Writing Warrior, helps us identify key areas of distraction and gives us tools to stay with the discomfort long enough to utilize the wisdom in our own body, breath, and stories. This writing workshop is process oriented. We spend class time meditating, moving, writing, and being in deep communion with ourselves. Writers of at all levels of experience and of any genre are invited. Required Reading: Herring, and Goldberg, Writing Down the Bones and Wild Mind.Laraine Herring holds an MFA in creative writing and an MA in counseling psychology. Her work has won the Barbara Deming Award for Women and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Her latest works are Writing Begins With the Breath and The Writing Warrior. laraineherring.com |
