Using Costa Rica's people and lush landscape as our canvas, this workshop explores the relationship between you, the photographer, and the world you encounter on your journey. Watch your travel snapshots evolve into timeless images as you become a better judge of light, composition, camera angle, and your subject's energy.

We photograph—on the grounds at Sueño Azul, in nearby villages and rainforests, and on eco-adventures—early and late in the day when the light is soft and magical. Mid-day, we meet for critiques. Additional evening discussions and personal mentoring is also available.

As a group, we produce a final DVD slide show or self-published photo book that captures the special images and stories of our week.

With assignments geared for work at your own pace, this class is for beginners, advanced amateurs, and beginning professionals. Please have familiarity with basic operation of your digital camera.

Please note: Students must bring their own digital camera. Bring a laptop if you have one.

A former National Public Radio freelance reporter and political speechwriter, Todd Shapera has photographed (and written about) some of the planet's most remote places and humble people for more than 25 years. www.toddshapera.com
