Kirtan College

A Devotional Chanting Immersion

Registration for this workshop has ended. Go to the Search Workshops page to look for upcoming workshops.

Join David Newman (Durga Das) and Mira for an unforgettable weeklong immersion into the healing and uplifting ancient Indian tradition of devotional chanting known as kirtan.

As you steep in kirtans, chant instruction, and Sanskrit translation and pronunciation in this unique and joyful training, you gain the understanding, confidence, and tools necessary to develop a regular chanting practice. Teachings about Hindu deities, chakras, and Bhakti yoga, as well as storytelling of the ancient Indian myths help deepen your kirtan practice.

There are also practical clinics to help you cultivate musical skills to accompany, creatively compose, and lead a group in devotional chanting. At week’s end, all participants join together to lead a jubilant group kirtan.

David Newman and Mira are also part of Spring Ecstatic Chant; participants in Kirtan College receive a 25% discount off tuition for Spring Ecstatic Chant; May 7-9, 2010.

David Newman (Durga Das) travels extensively singing kirtans and offering workshops on the healing power of sound and the devotional aspects of the yogic path known as Bhakti Yoga. Newman has released the CDs Soul Freedom, Lotus Feet, Leap of Grace and Love, Peace, Chant, as well as the CD/DVD set Into the Bliss. He is founder of Yoga On Main in Philadelphia and author of Merging with Grace. davidnewmanmusic.com
