Sound has a dynamic impact on us—both beneficial and harmful. Recent research confirms that the constant intake of some sounds can overstimulate the nervous system, weaken immune function, and diminish concentration and focus. But sound also has a powerful healing potential, and sound healing is at the forefront of emerging energy medicine techniques.
In this symposium, we explore the effect of sensory overstimulation and experience the practical use of sound and music for finding balance. As we do so, we have the opportunity to transform our more common experiences with sound and music, and learn to use them as transformative and therapeutic tools for personal growth and professional development.
The weekend includes lectures, experiential exercises, discussion, and question-and-answer sessions. We learn the health benefits of drumming as we drum; we chant, dance, and vision to explore how music, movement, and imagery release stress and open the mind to spiritual awareness; and we use sound in the shamanic tradition to access deeper states of consciousness. Highlights include a world sound healing meditation and sacred drumming with legendary drummer Layne Redmond on Saturday evening.
No prior musical experience necessary. Bring a drum or other percussion instrument if you have one. Additional drums and percussion instruments provided by REMO HealthRHYTHMS.
