Maintaining an alive and enriching connection with an intimate partner today requires a whole new vision and approach: We need to recognize personal love as a call to awaken to our deepest nature. Relationship is a powerful vehicle for this awakening because it inspires openness and expansion, while also stirring up conditioned patterns from the past that block loving presence. Here at this juncture—where our small, reactive self and our larger, open nature intersect—is where real transformation happens and relationship becomes a sacred path.

True intimacy is only possible when two people connect being-to-being. The conditioned personality functions in defensive, reactive ways, and is therefore incapable of real intimacy. This workshop facilitates a shift from personality to being so you can be more present in yourself while relating to others. This deeper quality of presence—more than any strategy or technique—is what provides a true resolution to most relationship problems.

The format consists of talks, experiential exercises, communication practices, and meditation. Previous meditation experience is not necessary, just a willingness to engage in this practice.

Required reading: Welwood, Love and Awakening. Recommended reading: Welwood, Journey of the Heart. John Welwood is also teaching The Healing Power of Unconditional Presence.
