Saturday Afternoon Workshops—Women & Power
Resiliency in Challenging Times
Sharon Salzberg and Cheri Maples
This workshop is an opportunity to rediscover the resiliency of the human spirit. Many of us are overwhelmed and stressed. The key to sustaining ourselves, especially in the face of daily challenges, is balancing our heart and mind. Through the practice of meditation, we develop three essential skills that cultivate balance: concentration, mindfulness, and compassion. This workshop, which is suitable for beginning and experienced meditators, emphasizes these skills and moves us towards deeper care, both for ourselves and for others.
Beloved Community: Leadership, Collaboration & Women
Akaya Winwood
Imagine a world in which authentic women's leadership is encouraged, supported, and valued. Imagine that you could unequivocally count on other women and that they equally could count on you. Imagine what a legion of bold, bright, and collaborative women could do. In this experiential gathering, we explore the idea of Beloved Community among women. Come and help create a world in which you can believe, engage, and thrive!
How to Lead with Love
Sierra Bender
A woman's core power is love: graceful yet strong, emotional yet intellectual, peaceful yet fierce. Through yogic techniques, breath work, board breaking, and healing exercises, you will acquire tools to strengthen your leadership skills; access, energize, and maintain your core power; lead with love without sacrificing yourself; break through limiting beliefs and trust your intuition. Take the lead! Put your female spirit into action and create change at home, work, in community, and in the world.
Activism in Your Own Voice
Amy Richards and Marianne Schnall
Our leadership driven society instructs us to look at leadership outside ourselves. People stay disempowered because they assume power is hierarchical and not linear, and rarely do women feel they are at the top of the hierarchy. Using a feminist lens, leadership is driven by local needs, not national priorities. This workshop highlights how you can become your own best leader and how you can tap into your own unique resources to make a difference on a cause you are passionate about. By coming together in real time, we translate the wonderful virtues of the online world back into our communities.
Nature, Story & Purpose: A Compass for Navigating Leadership
Nina Simons
As women, we may be particularly well equipped to help lead the shift the Earth is calling for. Learn how our stories can limit or expand our options for living our soul's purpose, or unique assignment, with Nina Simons, cofounder of Bioneers. Together we discover how we can marry our joy with our desire for service to become unstoppable change-agents. We explore how powerfully we can mentor and strengthen each other; create new models of shared leadership; heal from an inherited legacy of violence, domination and trauma; and develop our capacity to make a courageous and effective stand on behalf of a healthy, peaceful, and just society.
Body and Soul
Maya Breuer and Jana Long
Tap into the inner wisdom of the body to release prana and power through breath and movement. Explore soulful rhythms and experience the ease of meditation and metta (lovingkindness). Lift your voice in the women's spirit circle to renew your body and soul. Feel the transformation that yoga brings when you express yourself freely and unleash your spirit.
Giving Voice to Trauma: Spiritual Surrender and Leadership
Shaima Khinjani, Suad Mansour, Loung Ung, and Gail Straub
Gail Straub will moderate a conversation with three remarkable women from Afghanistan, Darfur, and Cambodia who share how living through the unthinkable and giving voice to that pain has shaped them as leaders. This workshop explores how the experiences of war, genocide, or violence of any kind, can create profound and powerful leaders. Through discussion and guided meditation we discover how we all need to give voice to the most painful parts of our lives in order for our suffering to bear the fruits of resilience, compassion, vulnerability, strength, and spiritual surrender, the very qualities needed for mature leadership.
A Leader Must Be Loyal to Herself: Empowerment Through Writing
Marta Szabo
Writing down your stories is a surefire way to get to the essence of who you are. In this workshop, we look our most important stories in the eye and write them down spontaneously, throwing caution to the wind, ignoring the voices that tell us to stop because we're not good enough or we shouldn't say such things. This is an arts workshop—writing and language are the materials. Those who write, and those who long to, are welcome.
Own Your Finance, Own Your Life
Manisha Thakor
If you want to live your life from a position of financial strength, this is the workshop for you. In 90 interactive minutes you learn what 7 out of 10 Americans are doing wrong with their money and how you can avoid these common pitfalls; discover which 5 items will likely consume 50% of your lifetime earnings and how you can make smart decisions about them; and uncover if you are on track financially and, if not, what to do about it.
