Natalie Merchant began her recording career in 1981 as the lead vocalist and lyricist with the band 10,000 Maniacs. Her voice and outspoken social awareness cemented her status as one of today’s most astute and captivating artists. Merchant released six albums with the 10,000 Maniacs between 1981 and 1993: The Wishing Chair, In My Tribe, Blind Man’s Zoo, Hope Chest, Our Time in Eden, and 10,000 Maniacs MTV Unplugged.
In 1994, Natalie Merchant’s reputation as a solo songwriter and singer of quality was established with her self-produced debut album, Tigerlily. In the years since, she has released Ophelia, Natalie Merchant Live, Motherland, and The House Carpenter’s Daughter. Her recording, Retrospective 1995-2005, a “hits & rarities” collection, captures Merchant’s evolution as an artist and her socially conscious and melodious signature style.
