Member of the 13 Grandmothers Council
“In these latest times we live in, when killing seems almost natural, we are here to illuminate a consciousness for this planet that is in agony. Inside our hearts, I believe each of us feels great hope. This is a seed being planted.”
—Clara Shinobu Iura, member of the 13 Grandmothers Council
Born in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Clara Shinobu Iura is one of the 13 grandmothers of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers, a global alliance that teaches ancestral ways of prayer, education, and healing. She was initiated to become a healer through her experiences of clairvoyance, mediumship, and many teachings—from macrobiotics to Umbanda, an Afro-Brazilian religion. After helping to cure Padrinho Sebastiao, spiritual leader of one of the Santo Daime’s largest churches, Clara Shinobu Iura was invited to live and work in Céu do Mapiá, his community located in the heart of the Amazon forest in Brazil. Since 1999, she has directed the Santa Casa de Saúde (Holy House of Health) Padrinho Manoel Corrente, Céu do Mapiá’s holistic healing center.
