In 1985, Isabel Allende’s literary debut, The House of Spirits, catapulted her to international acclaim and established her as a major international writer. Since then, her many books, including The House of Spirits, Paula, and Oprah Book Club selection Daughter of Fortune, have sold more than 51 million copies and have been translated into 27 languages. Allende has received many honors for her writing and in 2004, was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Born in Chile, Allende is a passionate speaker and a lifelong advocate for human rights. She is founder of the Isabel Allende Foundation, which seeks to empower women and girls, and protect women and children.
