Daniel Goleman, PhD

Daniel Goleman, PhD

Daniel Goleman, PhD, is a psychologist who for many years reported on the brain and behavioral sciences for the New York Times. He was previously a visiting faculty member at Harvard University and now consults and lectures internationally to business audiences, professional groups, and on college campuses.

Goleman is the author of Emotional Intelligence, a New York Times best-seller with more than 5,000,000 copies in print worldwide. Emotional Intelligence has been translated into 40 languages and has been a best-seller throughout Europe, Asia, and Latin America. It has changed the way we think about work place excellence, education, leadership, and IQ. Goleman’s book, Working With Emotional Intelligence, further argues that workplace competencies based on emotional intelligence play a far greater role in star performance than do intellect or technical skill, and that both individuals and companies will benefit from cultivating these capabilities. Goleman’s other books include Social Intelligence, which explores how our brains are wired to connect, and Ecological Intelligence, which outlines innovative ways to change our collective human footprint for the better.

Goleman is a cofounder of the Collaborative for Social and Emotional Learning at the Yale University Child Studies Center (now at the University of Illinois at Chicago) and is cochairman of the Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations, based in the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers University. He is also a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
