Sarah Powers

Sarah Powers

Sarah Powers began teaching yoga in 1987 and is founder of Insight Yoga, which interweaves the insights and practices of yoga, Buddhism, Chinese medicine, and transpersonal psychology into an integral practice to enliven the body, heart, and mind. Insight Yoga blends a yin sequence of floor poses to enhance the meridian and organ systems, with an alignment-based slow flow or yang practice, influenced by Viniyoga, Ashtanga, and Iyengar teachings.

Powers’ main teachers are Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Jennifer Welwood, Lama Tsultrim Allione, and Lama Pema Dorje. She has drawn from her studies in transpersonal psychology, as well as her in-depth training in the vipassana, Tantric, and Dzogchen practices of Buddhism, to create Insight Yoga.

Sarah Powers is author of Insight Yoga and is cofounder with her husband, Ty Powers, of the Insight Yoga Institute, which offers 720 hour trainings with other renowned teachers blending yoga, Buddhism, and psychology. She is also cofounder of Metta Journeys, a service-oriented organization that offers yoga retreats internationally to help women and children in developing countries.
