Jana Long, RYT
Jana Long, RYT, is founder and director of Power of One Yoga in Baltimore, Maryland, a wellness consulting business that combines the ancient wisdom of yoga, Ayurveda, and black cultural expressions with modern-day approaches to mind-body wellness. Her classes, workshops, special events, conferences, and retreats are designed to support the individual’s journey to better health, self-exploration, spiritual reflection, and personal empowerment.
Since its inception in 2001, Power of One Yoga has been at the forefront of introducing the practice of yoga and basic concepts of Ayurveda to urban and black communities worldwide. Jana has worked with researchers at The Johns Hopkins University, Girl Scouts of America, Delta Sigma Theta, Baltimore City public schools, and numerous churches, and social and professional organizations.
Jana began her yoga practice in the early 1970s. She is a certified teacher in Integrative Yoga Therapy and is currently studying with Swamini Mayatitananda of the Wise Earth School of Ayurveda. She is a member of the International Association of Black Yoga Teachers, International Association of Yoga Therapists, and the Yoga Alliance. Her travels to Ghana, West Africa, the Caribbean, and throughout the southern United States infuse her work with the spirit of Sankofa, as symbolized in West African culture by the mythical bird that flies forward with its head turned backwards, reflecting the belief that the wisdom of the past serves as a guide for building the future. |
