Flordemayo

Member of the 13 Grandmothers Council

“In this time of movement, where celestial doors have opened, we must do what we have been asked to do. We are standing in the movement and the vibration of a sacred prophecy. The prophecy tells us that consciousness is preparing the spirit of the feminine, the spirit of the grandmothers. It is in the prophecy that we shall walk into the light united from the four directions.”
—Flordemayo, member of the 13 Grandmothers Council

Curandera espiritu (healer by divine spirit) and Mayan priestess Flordemayo is one of the 13 grandmothers of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers, a global alliance that teaches ancestral ways of prayer, education, and healing. Flordemayo was born in a small village on the Nicaragua Honduras border. Her father was a local shaman and her mother was a midwife and healer, whom Flordemayo apprenticed with from the age four. As her own children grew, Flordemayo began to work as a healer. Today, she uses the sacred breath, laying on of hands, application of herbs, as well as distance healing, with her clients.

Flordemayo is a sundancer who considers her Mayan heritage a keystone of her work. She has been a featured speaker on curanderismo (folk healing) at many conferences on traditional medicine and a frequent presenter at international conferences such as the Institute of Noetic Sciences and Bioneers. She is also a recipient of the Martin de la Cruz Award for Alternative Healing, a prestigious honor given by the International Congress of Traditional Medicine.

Since 1999, Flordemayo has been a part of the Wisdom of the Grandmother’s Foundation, and currently serves on the board of directors of the Institute of Natural and Traditional Knowledge in San Juan, New Mexico.
