Russell Simmons
A devout yoga practitioner, brilliant entrepreneur, dedicated philanthropist, and burgeoning political player, Russell Simmons is most famous as the cofounder of Def Jam Recordings, the label that propelled hip-hop out of the ghetto and into mainstream America. His creative and merchandising empire includes a hit Broadway show, Def Poetry Jam, two HBO programs, Phat Farm apparel, the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation (rushphilanthropic.org), and the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (hsan.org), founded in 2001 to promote economic and social justice.
