Kavitha Rao


Kavitha Rao Kavitha Rao is a founding director (with Jeff Golden) of The Common Fire Foundation and a member of the board of directors and executive council of the Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR), the largest, oldest interfaith peace organization in the United States, dedicated to the promotion of nonviolent conflict resolution. She leads trainings nationwide for FOR's Peacemaker Training Institute, where young adults learn about the philosophy and strategy of nonviolent social change.

Rao was an international correspondent with the Odyssey's World Trek for two years, reporting from over 30 countries around the world about history, culture, contemporary issues, and grassroots movements for the Odyssey's free educational website, which served over 60,000 K-12 students and 3,000 teachers. She was also previously an apprentice with the Aprovecho Sustainable Living Research Center and a consultant to the Tides Center for nonprofit management services.

A yoga instructor and graduate of Be Present's "Gender, Power and Class" National Institute, Rao is the coauthor of the forthcoming book for youth From Cape Town to Timbuktu: An African Odyssey.
