Sally Field Sally Field is a two-time Academy Award-winner for her performances in Places in the Heart (also capturing a Golden Globe) and Norma Rae. For her title role in the latter, Field earned a mantle-full of acting honors, including the New York Film Critics prize, the National Board of Review Award, the Los Angeles Film Critics Award, the National Society of Film Critics honor, Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival and a Golden Globe. She received the 2001 American Society Cinematographers' Board of Governors Award. A favorite with the Foreign Press group, Field also collected Golden Globe nominations for her work in many other films including Steel Magnolias, Absence of Malice, and Forrest Gump.

In addition to her stellar film-acting career, Field has also directed three projects. She is currently appearing in the television series Brothers and Sister, and has had a special guest-starring role on the hit series E.R. for which she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award. Field began her career on television when she was selected from 150 finalists to star in the ABC series Gidget. She went on to star in The Flying Nun and The Girl with Something Extra. She won an Emmy for her mesmerizing role of a woman with multiple personalities in the landmark miniseries Sybil, and earned two more Emmy nominations (one for her performance, the other as co-producer) for the NBC miniseries A Woman of Independent Means, which marked her return to the small screen after a twenty-year absence.

Along with devoting time to work and family, Field has brought attention to political causes, from the antinuclear movement to V-Day. She is also a mentor to young film directors and actors at the Sundance Institute. Field's latest crusade is more personal: after being diagnosed with osteoporosis, she became a spokesperson for bone health awareness.
