The Monks and Nuns of Plum Village
The Plum Village monks and nuns have, for many years, lived in Plum Village—a monastery for Buddhist monks and nuns and a retreat center for lay people—in the southwest of France.
Plum Village was founded in 1982 by Thich Nhat Hanh, a Buddhist monk, teacher, and author whose peace-based activism in his native Vietnam eventually led to his exile. His mindfulness teachings have inspired hundreds of thousands of people around the world, making him one of the most beloved Buddhist teachers in the West.
The senior monks, nuns, and disciples of Thich Nhat Hanh received the Lamp Transmission—the initiation as a dharma teacher in this lineage—directly from him. |
