Rev. Michael Bernard Beckwith
Rev. Michael Bernard Beckwith's life is a living testament to building spiritual community. In the 1970s, he began an inward journey into the teachings of the East and West, and today is a renowned teacher of the truth teachings of the ages. He is the founder and spiritual director of the Agape International Spiritual Center in Culver City, California, a transdenominational spiritual community established in 1986 with a current membership of 9,000. Agape's outreach programs feed the homeless, serve incarcerated individuals and their families, advocate the preservation of the planet's environmental resources, and globally build and support orphanages whose children have survived the ravages of war and AIDS.
Beckwith participates on international panels with other peacemakers and spiritual leaders including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dr. T. Ariyarante of Sri Lanka, and Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mohandas K. Gandhi. He is cofounder of the Association for Global Thought, an organization dedicated to planetary healing and transformation, and codirector of A Season for Nonviolence, which promotes and teaches the principles of nonviolence embodied by Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and is endorsed by UNESCO on behalf of its Culture of Peace and Nonviolence Appeal by Nobel Peace laureates.
Beckwith is the recipient of numerous humanitarian awards, including the 2004 Africa Peace Award, Thomas Kilgore Prophetic Witness Award, Howard Thurman Stained Glass Window Award by Morehouse College, and the Humanitarian Award of the National Conference for Compassion and Justice. He is also a popular media guest and has appeared on Oprah and Larry King Live.
Originator of the Life Visioning Process-a time-tested technique offering its practitioners a method for putting a stop to being a passive tourist in one's life-he teaches the process throughout the country along with meditation, scientific prayer, and the spiritual benefits of selfless service. His books include Inspirations of the Heart, Forty Day Mind Fast Soul Feast, A Manifesto of Peace, and Living from the Overflow.
Together, Beckwith and Rickie Byars Beckwith have written lyrics and music performed by the Agape International Choir in concert venues worldwide. Always in demand, their performances inspire peace and goodwill in the global community. They share their lives with their four adult children and six grandchildren. |
